China Bans Human/Cartoon Interaction!
China's State Administration of Radio, Film and Television has recently banned Space Jam, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and presumably more (Possibly including even the Lord of the Rings trilogy) Their new policy says that 2D or 3D animated characters can not appear in TV shows or films along with human actors.

CGI and 2-D characters alongside human actors jeopardize "the broadcast order of homemade animation and mislead their development," according to a report from the state-run Xinhua News Agency.
"Babe" was banned on the basis that animals can't talk and some viewers would be confused.

The upside to this will be the amusement that Westerners will get from seeing protesters dressed up in Bugs Bunny suits flogged and tortured in from on Vancouver's City Hall to protest the new law

the protestors of Falun Gong or whatever don't protest in front of City Hall. They protest in front of Vancouver Art Gallery downtown, and they have a 24 hour-a-day protest booth set up in front of the Chinese Embassy. one person is in there at all times.

Being unfamiliar with the city, I thought that it was the city hall. All those crazy steps, you know. In retrospect, it makes sense since their protest could be easily be classified as performance art.

Interesting. I always found it fascinating the China outlawed depictions of skeletons (so no Corpse Bride over there). I always wondered what the rationale behind that was.

I was telling my boyfriend about the novel "Shanghai Baby" by Wei Hui, and read the back of it where it says that the book was banned in China.
He looked at me really unimpressed and said, "God, they make it sound like it's such an achievement. Lots of shit gets banned in China." So apparantly this is all commonplace and no big deal. Apparantly.

That's funny. It reminds me of the time I introduced Anason to the Beastie Boys. "Dude, you gotta listen to this! These guys are banned in China." So I showed him Paul's Boutique. He decided that he liked Eminem better.
